Home remedies for cough

Coughs aid in the removal of irritants and diseases from the body, but they may be irritating if they occur frequently. The best way to cure a cough is to figure out what’s causing it in the first place. Coughs can be caused by a variety of factors, including allergies, infections, and acid reflux. Here are some home remedies for cough:-

1. Gargling with salt and water

This easy treatment for a sore throat and a wet cough is one of the most effective methods. Gargling with water reduces the common cold and even prevents infections from occurring. Dissolve half a teaspoon of salt then stir it into a cup of warm water. Allow the solution to cool for a few minutes before applying it to the gauze. Allow the combination to rest for a few seconds in the back of the throat before spitting it out. Gargle with saltwater many times each day till your cough goes away.

2. Have honey with tea or hot water

Honey provides the most effective cough reduction. It has natural antibacterial qualities, which allow it to function as a wound healer, providing instant pain relief while reducing inflammation. Honey has the ability to destroy germs and aid in the battle against viral illnesses. Mix 2 teaspoons of honey with warm water or tea and drink it twice or thrice a day.

3. Drinking hot fluids

Drinking plenty of fluids, particularly warm ones, such as warm water, chicken stew and tea is another effective home treatment to cure cough. Many persons with cough are dehydrated, so you must have lots of water because it not only relieves coughing pain but it also keeps you hydrated. Fluids also assist your immune system fight against the source of the illness or virus that might cause a cough, and alleviate your coughing sore throat.

4. Have Ginger

Certain refined chemicals found in the ginger root have been shown in studies to relax the muscles that constrict your airways. Ginger may be eaten raw, or powdered ginger root can be mixed with honey and added to hot tea. Add 20–40 grams (g) of fresh ginger slices to a cup of boiling water to make a relaxing ginger tea. Allow a few minutes for the tea to brew before drinking. To enhance add flavour and relieve cough, add honey or lemon juice.

5. Take steam

Inhaling steam may help with coughing because it relaxes your airways and moistures them. Fill a big dish halfway with boiling water. Use herbs or essential oils to help alleviate congestion. Lean over the bowl and cover your head with a cloth. This holds the steam in place. For 5 minutes, inhale the fumes. If the steam is too hot for your skin, stop using it until it cools down.
